The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of several pieces of gear from a car belonging to a military policeman at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
A Sheriff’s deputy responded to the Woodbridge area at Parkside Drive in Bluffton on Monday night after the man — a “Civilian Military Policeman,” according to the deputy’s report — called the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident.
In all, the man reported $1,500 of missing gear, including a “law enforcement baton,” body armor and his badge.
He thinks the theft occurred sometime between Friday night and Tuesday. During that time he made trips to various locations in Savannah and Bluffton, so investigators aren’t sure where and when the items went missing.
He said there was no sign of forced entry to his vehicle, according to the report.
He noticed the gear was missing earlier Monday night, when he reported for work at the air station.
The body armor — consisting of a vest that holds front and read Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) plates — is valued at $1,200, according to the report.
